What is Lapping?
Lapping is a machining process in which two surfaces are rubbed together with an abrasive between them, by hand or using a machine. Lapping is an abrasive superfinishing operation that achieves extreme dimensional accuracy and a very fine surface finish (Ra < 0.16 μm).
The lapping machine consists of a rotating table called “lapping plate”, which is responsible for “rubbing” the abrasive paste on the pieces. On this table and inside some rings are placed the pieces that are held by making a slight pressure with an upper disk or by their own weight

Lapmaster 24
The lapmaster 24 is the smallest floor-standing lapping machine in the range. It’s equipped with a 24 inch (610 mm) diameter serrated cast-iron lap plate as standard. This is excellent for when it comes to accurate precision machining that our personnel are so prepared to perform.
Lapmaster 12
This is a bench-mounted unit with a rigid, lightweight cast-aluminum base. The machine is configured by our technicians to enable high standards of flatness and surface finish to be routinely achieved. In-process lap plate flatness control is provided for by three conditioning rings which are located in yoke/roller-bearing assemblies.
